Save $10 Next Week

July 27, 2007 by Rachel
Here are 10 easy ways to save AT LEAST $1.  Try them next week and see just how much "extra" money you find!  1.  PAY CASH - Research shows that you WILL SPEND MORE when you pay for your purchases with plastic (debit or credit).  Depending on which estimate you read, purchases made using plastic will be 30-47% GREATER than purchases made with cash.  If you pay cash for just 2 or 3 purchases that you would normally pay for with plastic, you will definitely spend less. 2.  MAKE COFFEE AT HOME - If you skip Starbuck's (or wherever you go for coffee) just once next week, you'll save some bucks. 3.  CHECK OUT VIDEOS FROM THE LIBRARY - This is a great option, especially for children's videos.  Most branches have a wide selection with 5-7 day checkout periods.  By just renting or ordering 1 less video per week, you will save $2-$4. 4.  DRINK WATER - The next time you eat in a "sit down" restaurant, just order water.  There is no charge and it's better for you! 5.  CANCEL 1 SUBSCRIPTION - More than likely, you have at least 1 magazine or newspaper subscription that you don't read.  Cancel it and pocket the money. 6.  STAY HOME - Make a commitment not to drive or spend any money for 24 hours.  You'll save gas money AND the money you would have spent while you were out.  Instead, read a book or play a game with your kids. 7.  ROLL YOUR LOOSE CHANGE - Look in your car, your sofa, and your purse.  Gather all the loose change you can find and see how fast those coins add up. 8.  TAKE YOUR LUNCH TO WORK - Again, if you do this just once, you'll save $3-$10 in just one day and that doesn't include the gas money you will save by not driving to the restaurant. 9.  USE A COUPON - With a little bit of planning, you can find coupons for something that you normally buy at the grocery store.  By paying attention to what's on sale and to "double coupon" days, you can save even more. 10.  SWAP BABYSITTING - For short errands or trips to the gym, find a neighbor or friend that is willing to swap childcare.  Take turns watching each other's kids and don't spend a dime! Get busy and start saving today!
